Reading note: Against Fantology Again

Ingvar Johansson’s “Against Fantology Again” #JZG4PM reframes fantology as the claim that only a default ontologization of traditional first-order predicate logic can display reality. He introduces default ontologization as an ontologically neutral operation applicable to natural and logical languages, then argues that Quine’s canonical notation is doubly incoherent: it cannot represent classes consistently within first-order logic, and its extensional physicalism excludes intentional phenomena while Quine’s appearance/reality distinction implicitly requires different modes of existence. Johansson defends a fallibilist recognition of conscious occurrences and intentionality #HSJWCU #Y2EB2B #EYPEX5
